$500 reward offered for missing dog
A Topaz Ranch Estates couple is offering a $500 reward for Bodie, a 3-year-old Shiba Inu who disappeared on a hike Saturday on the southside of the Pine Nut Mountains behind Sandstone.
Owners Lois and Paul Howell described Bodie as very friendly.
“He’s a great dog and we really miss him,” Paul Howell said.
Howell said Bodie is red-colored, 15-1/2 inches high at the shoulder and weighs 26 pounds.
He was wearing a red collar with identification and license tags.
Howell said he takes Bodie hiking frequently and he always comes back.
“He probably lit off after a rabbit or got on a scent or something,” Howell said.
Howell, Douglas County undersheriff, said he searched the area all weekend, but there was no sign of the dog.
Since he posted flyers about Bodie’s disappearance, Howell said the outpouring of support has been overwhelming.
“We’ve had lots of offers of help. Sometimes you forget how good people are,” Howell said. “We really want to thank everyone for their help and just ask them to keep their eyes open.”
He said a group of woodcutters in a tan truck were in the area behind Sandstone and several people were riding quads whom he hopes will contact him who might have seen the dog.
Anyone with information is asked to call the Howells at 266-4127 or 721-6631.
