n A 2004 Douglas High School graduate was crowned Miss Nevada USA 2006 in November and is headed to the Miss USA competition in Baltimore, Md., in April. Lauren Scyphers, 20, is following her dream, according to her mother, Patty Scyphers of Gardnerville. Page B1

n To celebrate the 150th anniversary of Snowshoe Thompson’s initial mail run from Placerville to Genoa, events will occur March 11 in Hope Valley and Genoa. A morning cross country ski and snowshoe tour will take place at the Hope Valley Outdoor Center and a celebration of Snowshoe’s life will take place at Genoa Town Hall later in the day. Page B1
