2013 ends in flames for man and his car
A Silver Springs man visiting Stateline to play some slots and relax had his car stolen from the casino parking lot and lit on fire.
The man wasn’t too surprised: He described it as a fitting end to a lackluster year to a Douglas County Sheriff’s Office deputy who responded to investigate the Dec. 27 incident. The man’s blue Dodge Caliber was stolen while he was playing slots at Harveys Lake Tahoe.
He reported finding the car stolen when he left the casino that evening, just as Tahoe Douglas Fire and Douglas County deputies were responding to an abandoned car engulfed in flames near Highway 50 and Hidden Woods Drive.
The man reportedly left his keys in the car while he was in the casino. He said he usually does that with no worries because he lives in a secluded area.
Informed his stolen car had already been found on fire and heavily damaged, the man became upset and pulled off his hat, but did not appear overly surprised or shocked, the deputy noted in his police report.
“Well, 2013 sucked, so here’s to a better 2014,” the man told the deputy.
The car was towed to Douglas County impound as evidence and the incident remains under investigation.
