10 seek clerk-treasurer position
Only four of the original candidates for clerk-treasurer are still in the running, along with a half-dozen new applicants.
Among the applicants still in the running is a Newport, Calif., woman, who said she is registered to vote in Washoe County.
Erin Marie Stieber said she still wanted to be considered for the position. Military contractor Rebecca Cervantes is working in the Middle East and said her home is officially Virginia. She confirmed she isn’t registered to vote in Douglas County. The only job requirement for clerk-treasurer under the Nevada Constitution is that the candidate be a registered voter in the county.
Applications closed last week for the position, which serves as the main financial and election officer for the county.
County Manager Jim Nichols said Tuesday night that he’d received a resignation from former Clerk-Treasurer Ted Thran last week, allowing the process to move forward.
Thran previously resigned in August, but remained on the Nov. 4 ballot.
Genoa resident Trent Tholen and Gardnerville resident Mary Wenner both hold public office in Douglas County. Ruhenstroth resident Elaine Thomas’ address was supplied by the HR department in September when the applications were originally released. Applicant Kitty De Socio is a Genoa resident and former town board chairwoman. Genoa resident Shelley Cottrill and Minden resident Kathryn Lewis both appear on the assessor’s rolls. Joseph T. Spencer said he lives in Minden. The newspaper has yet to hear from Jarrod Morrow.
