Local women honored by CV Historical Society
Women nominated for the Carson Valley Historical Society’s “Women’s History Remembering Project” will be honored at a ceremony at 1 p.m. March 5 at the Carson Valley Museum and Cultural Center.
Twenty-three local women have been nominated, and all Carson Valley nominations will be archived in the society’s library, located at the Carson Valley Museum and Cultural Center, 1477 Highway 395, Gardnerville.
The information to be archived is:
The name of the woman.
When and where she was born.
If deceased, when and where.
If she was not born in the Carson Valley, when and why did she move to the Carson Valley.
Other significant dates in her life.
Why she is being honored by the person nominating her.
What are the major accomplishments of her life.
Invited as honored guests are the women who were nominated, the people who nominated them and members of their families.
A roll call will be held of every nominee and the person who nominated her during the ceremony. Certificates commemorating the event will be presented.
The ceremony will follow the opening of the women’s history exhibit, “Nevada Women on the Road to Change, 1860-1920.” Refreshments will be served.
A video on women’s suffrage, featuring Elizabeth Cady Stanton and Susan B. Anthony, will be shown from 3 to 4 p.m.
