Library children’s reading program begins this week

“Hi-Bear-Nate With a Good Book” is the theme of the winter reading program at the Douglas County Public Library in Minden. The program is sponsored by the Friends of the Library and McDonald’s. Children off-track and on-track are welcome to participate, also preschoolers and homeschoolers.

Children must read one hour a day for 16 days or any combination of time to accumulate 16 hours.

For pre-readers, there is a Read-To-Me program. Children are read to for 20-30 minutes, they they color a picture of a teddy bear. When 20 bears are colored in, they will receive a bookmark, prize from the treasure chest, McDonald’s certificate and a paperback book.

Beginning readers may participate by reading 20-30 minutes a day.

The program runs from Jan. 2 through National Library Week, April 1-7. Reading records may be turned in through the month of April.
