LDS Church offers open house to public

Staff Reports

The three Carson Valley wards of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints will host a Christmas Open House on Sunday, Dec. 14, at 7 p.m.

The evening will include caroling, a live nativity scene, Christmas cookies and a Christmas play. The combined ward choirs will perform the Hallelujah chorus from Handel’s Messiah.”

The author of the play is Kim Russell, a mother of six who lives in Gardnerville. She wrote the play after pondering why she and others are left with an empty feeling every year after all the presents are opened on Christmas day.

Russell described the play as “a modern portrayal of Jesus Christ’s life and our love for him.” The play “provides a plan for a meaningful Christmas.”

Helen Jones, director of the 5-person combined choir, is particularly pleased with the group’s rendition of the Hallelujah chorus.

“It’s so exciting that I can hardly breathe, and afterwards, I’m just shaking,” Jones said of the choir’s performance.

Everyone is invited to attend the Open House, which will be held at the LDS church on the corner of Spruce and Deseret streets in Minden.
