Kite day is May 22
University of Nevada Cooperative Extension staff members will help area youths reach new heights May 22, as they host the annual 4-H Family Kite Day celebration at Lampe Park at noon.
The event is free and open to the public. All the materials needed to make a flight-ready kite will be provided. Long-time volunteers Stan and Carol Mayr will provide instruction. They have been 4-H volunteers for 28 years and have taught thousands of children and adults how to make and fly top-notch kites.
Bob Koreski, Douglas County 4-H youth coordinator, asks those who plan on coming out to Family Kite Day to please reply to him at University of Nevada Cooperative Extension, 782-9960, by May 19. This will ensure that there are enough kite-making materials to provide everyone with lots of high-flying fun, he said.
