Kids may study art at WNCC

Introduction to Painting and Drawing for Kids and Drawing and Illustration for Teens are two new art classes being offered by the Western Nevada Community College, Douglas College for Kids Program. Both classes meet after school and begin in April.

Introduction to Painting and Drawing for Kids is for students ages 8 to 12. In this class, students will learn basic drawing techniques such as shading, value and perspective. Students will then take one of their drawings and create an acrylic painting. WNCC art instructor Mark Tompkins will teach the class. Tompkins has been an art instructor for many years and teaches art classes to children and adults. The class meets on Fridays from 3:30 to 5 p.m. and runs April 9 to May 14.

Drawing and Illustration for Teens is for students ages 12 and up. This class will promote enthusiasm for and confidence in the art of drawing. Artists will be inspired to discover their own natural talent through the introduction to various tools and techniques. Children and adults art instructor Carol Foldvary-Anderson will teach this class. Foldvary-Anderson has a wealth of knowledge in illustrating and in the production of art and many avenues available to market your artwork. The class meets on Mondays from 3 to 4 p.m. and runs April 12 to May 10.
