JVES Science Fair is a success

Parents and friends of students at Jacks Valley Elementary School flocked to the school’s Science Fair on Tuesday evening. According to teacher Cheryl Winters, who coordinated the fair, all went well.

“It was wonderful. We had a great turnout,” Winters said. “The kids always end up coming through.”

Winners were:

First grade. Becky Grabow, first; Cassy Evans, second; and Jenna Weisenthal, third.

Second grade. Jackie Harper, first; Faith Herron, second; Bart Niday, third.

Third grade. Levi Grabow and Lindsey Painter, first; Brittany Evans, second; Kelby Todd, third.

Fourth grade. Danielle Lippincott, first; Liz Nickels, Mitchell Rowe and E.J. Wood, second; Stephanie Harper, third.

Fifth grade. Krystina Olsen, first; Krista Anderson, second; Lourdes Zuniga, third.

Sixth grade. Mat Neben, first; Stevie Hash, second; Elise Johnson, third.

Sixth grader Mat Neban received the Judges’ Award.

The first place winners in all grades are eligible to enter the regional science fair at the University of Nevada, Reno, March 15-17. Second place winners in grades 4-6 are also eligible to go to the regional competition, Winters said.

Judges were Jim Keegan, Susan Pike, Mark Winter, Noralie McKown, Dave Brady, David Bordenkircher, Andre Safford.
