JVES food drive brings in most food ever
The Jacks Valley Elementary 1999 canned food drive was held Jan. 19-27. According to teacher and organizer Mark Paloolian, this is the 16th drive held at the school.
The all-time record for the drive was in 1997, with 3,288 items collected, and the class taught by Vicki Templeton bringing in the most items, 1,170.
This year, students outdid themselves by bringing in 3,782 items, Paloolian said. Grades K-1 provided 532 items; grade 2, 304; grade 3, 187; grade 4, 970; grade 5, 221; grade 6, 1,532; and special services, 36.
Leading classes were, Templeton, 6th, 1,438; Paloolian, 4th, 492; Steve Rosenbloom, 4th, 465; Susan Kendrick and Jennifer Pendleton, 2nd, 250; Cheryl Winter, 1st, 226; and Daniel Makely, 5th-6th MAG, 183.
Paloolian’s class counted and coordinated the food drive and daily food counts were announced. The food was donated to the Carson Valley Community Food Closet.
“JVES does the good drive in the spring so that empty food closet shelves can be restocked after the Christmas holidays,” Paloolian said.
