Jean F. ‘Mean Jean’ Homer
A memorial service is 1 p.m. Saturday at St. Gall Catholic Church for retired Gardnerville Elementary School playground aide Jean F. “Mean Jean” Homer, 82, who died Jan. 21, 2011, at her home.
Born Jan. 29, 1928, in Des Moines, Iowa, she was a playground aide at the Gardnerville school for 27 years until her retirement in 2010. The family moved to Gardnerville from South Lake Tahoe in 1981.
She was fondly known as “Mean Jean” to the children and loved working with the staff at the school. Her favorite part of working at the school was the children, said daughter Julie Ramm. “She was always there to push them on a swing or just be there when the kids needed a hug or a laugh,” Ramm said. “Fat Tuesdays were her specialties at the school. She loved making treats for the staff.”
She was a tireless volunteer at the St. Gall rummage sale.
Mrs. Homer is preceded in death by her husband of 62 years, Donald.
She is survived by her 11 children Joan (Jim) Bartell, Mike (Ann) Homer, Carol (Rick) Seiley, Rick Homer, Robert (Kathryn) Homer, Mark (Jill) Homer, Judy (Mark) Bray, Cathy (Mark) Carter, Paul (Kim) Homer, Julie (Luke) Ramm and Tim Homer; her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
