Holbrook Junction to be site of arts and music festival
Artists, craftsmen and musicians in the area are invited to take part in the first Holbrook Arts and Music Festival at Holbrook Junction Aug. 30.
The festival is sponsored by Richard and Angela Hughes of Holbrook Station and Barbara and Michael Korabek of the Topaz Station Grill and will be held from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m.
“The list of booths is growing daily,” said Richard Hughes on Monday. “Everyone is welcome to participate.” Musicians and entertainers are particularly needed.
Hughes said he and his wife want to “let more people know there is another end to this county” and draw more Douglas residents southward.
Among the booths to be set up is a Beanie Babies Collectibles booth. It is one of the largest traveling vendors of its type, with over 500 Beanie Babies on display.
The DARE program and the public health nurse will have informational booths. Two nurses will be available to give children the required inoculations for school.
The Marine Corps from Pickel Meadow in California will sell T-shirts and mugs, and proceeds will benefit the U.S. Marine Corps anniversary ball later in the fall.
The sergeant major of the corps will be at the ball this year, Hughes said, and this is a “very big deal” for the Marines stationed in the area.
Kids and their parents will enjoy the Nevada Gunfighters Association’s mockup of a Western town and the re-enactments of gunfights and Western scenes by members of the group.
People who want to rent a booth space pay a $50 refundable fee, Hughes said. If the artist or crafter doesn’t show up, the booth fee will go to PALS – the Parks, Airport, Library and Seniors group which is trying to pass Advisory Question No. 1, which seeks to raise the sales tax by 1/4 cent.
To rent a booth or for more information, call Hughes at 266-3434 or Korabek, 266-9119.
The junction is located south of Gardnerville at 1501 Highway 395 S.
