Have you got your rubber duck yet?
Have you forgotten about buying that little, yellow rubber duck for the Wacky Waddlers Wiver Wace?
We hope not! You still have time, if you hurry, to purchase one and get it prepared for the race. These cute, little rubber ducks will make a big splash as they waddle on down the Cottonwood Slough at Lampe Park in Gardnerville on Sunday, June 13.
This event is co-sponsored by the Carson Valley Community Food Closet and Gardnerville Spa and Pool, 1540 Highway 395, South, owned and operated by Layne and Don Aufdenkamp, who provide the rubber ducks each year. (You may buy your ducks at either place). This annual (and only) fund-raiser for the Food Closet is being held in conjunction with the Carson Valley Days. Booths and a variety of concessions will be available in the park.
Rubber ducks are being sold in a variety of places throughout Douglas County. The wacky waddlers for the general public race may be purchased for a $5 per duck donation. Business and/or club and organization ducks are $50 per duck.
Post time is 1 p.m. for the business wace (business against business), 1:30 p.m. for the general public wace and 2 p.m. for the club and organization wace. A perpetual duck trophy and medallion, which will bear the winner’s name, will be presented to the business and club or organization winners. The trophies will remain with the winners until next year’s race. A variety of gifts for win (first), place (second), show (third) and a very tired last place will be awarded, as well as door prizes of gifts donated by businesses, organizations and individuals in the community. Jack McCormack will provide his expertise as race announcer.
When you purchase a rubber duck it will bear a racing number. You will receive a ticket with a matching number to identify you as the owner and qualify you for a door prize. For race information, contact Len Frueh, race chairman, at 265-3304.
