Harrah’s awards scholarships
Harrah’s Lake Tahoe awarded $15,000 in scholarships to 12 local graduating high school seniors. The scholarships were awarded based on grade point average, area of study, community service, financial need, work experience and career goals.
From Whittell High School, recipients were Amber Merkel, attending St. Mary’s; Christian Markt, attending Sonoma State; Bryce Schussel, attending Asuza Pacific; and Erin Zaskoda, attending University of California, Davis.
From Douglas High School were Kimberly Gitthens, attending University of Nevada, Reno; Jared Petersen, attending the University of Arizona; Mathew Johns, attending UNR; and Shannon Hall, attending Western Nevada Community College.
From South Tahoe High School were Evan Baker, attending UC, Santa Barbara; Kelly Huck, attending University of California, Los Angeles; Jennifer Kawaratani, attending Hawaii Pacific University; and Stacy Young, attending Sonoma State.
The scholarships ranged in value from $1,000 to $2,500 each.
