Handbell concert at Methodist church Sunday
Tomorrow, the congregation of the Carson Valley United Methodist Church will host Sabine Janowitz of Germany as she performs several solo handbell selections, including “Amazing Grace” and “Minuet in G” by Beethoven.
Janowitz began playing handbells in 1985 and has played with handbell choirs ever since. When playing solo, she uses two to three octaves of bells, a truly impressive feat, said Cindy McIntosh, director of Family Ministries at the church.
Her previous experience includes performances in Germany, France and the United States.
Janowitz will be playing at both the 8:30 and 10:30 a.m. services on Sunday morning. She will also offer a short workshop from approximately 9:50 to 10:10 a.m., at which time she will explain some of the techniques used to play handbells.
“Her presentations will be an opportunity for everyone in the community to experience the unique sound of handbells and also the beginning of an effort to begin a handbell choir at the Carson Valley United Methodist Church. Bells for this performance were generously lent from Reno since there are none available at the church,” McIntosh said.
The church is located at 1375 Centerville Lane, Gardnerville.
