Group formed sufferers of ‘invisible’ illnesses

Staff reports

A support group for people with chronic “invisible” illnesses, such as chronic headaches, chronic fatigue syndrome, fibromyalgia, lupus and post-polio syndrome, is forming in the Carson Valley-Carson City area.

The group will emphasize support, sharing and methods for taking positive action.

Invisible illnesses have symptoms that are not necessarily manifested externally, yet are as painful and debilitating as “visible” illnesses.

Suffers, spokespeople say, often feel alienated and frustrated because others cannot see their symptoms and judge them to be exaggerating or even imagining their suffering.

The group meets the first and third Wednesdays of the month, 6-7:30 p.m. at St. Peter’s Episcopal Church Rectory Preschool, 300 Division St., Carson City. Information, 267-1035.
