Golfers: You can still register for Family Support tourney

Staff reports

There is still time to register for the sixth annual Family Support Council of Douglas County Golf Tournament fund-raiser.

Karen Edwards of the Family Support Council was enthusiastic about the tournament and prizes donated by area businesses.

Among the prizes is a brand new car, donated by the C.O.D. Garage in Minden, for a hole in one on par three.

“Honestly, it really is going great. The golfers have a great time and they are really supportive of the Family Support Council. They are ready to spend their money,” Edwards said.

Along with the tournament itself, there will be a big barbecue, great prizes and ways to better your score.

Winan’s furniture has donated a $1,000 shopping spree as the top prize for the raffle.

“My hat really goes off to them for that donation,” Edwards added.

Raffle tickets can be purchased by the public at Beverly Realty at 1463 Highway 395, Gardnerville, or at the Family Support Council, 1255 Waterloo Lane, Suite A, for $5. Also, the tickets will be available at the tournament.

The tournament will be at Genoa Lakes Golf Course, Aug. 30, with registration at 12:30 p.m., and a shotgun start at 1:30 p.m. There will be prizes for men’s longest drive, women’s longest drive, men’s closest to the pin, women’s closest to the pin and four-person scramble. Cost is $85 per player and a barbecue dinner will be held at the Genoa Lakes Clubhouse following the tournament. For information, contact Beverly Johnson, Board of Directors, 1463 Highway 395, Gardnerville, or call at 782-7143.
