Glendale choir coming to Unity church

The resounding voices of the 65-member Glendale (Calif.) High School choir will fill the Genoa Town Hall on Palm Sunday, April 5 at the 10:30 a.m. service of Unity Church of Today. The group, under the direction of Grace Sheldon Williams, is making its first appearance in Genoa as part of the Unity Church of Today’s celebration marking its first Palm Sunday and Easter Sunday services in Genoa.

Numbers to be performed during the service include “Laudate Jehovam, omnes gentes” by Telemann, “Witness” by Halloran, “Joyful, Joyful” by Beethoven/Warren, “Oh, Rocka My Soul,” by Hairston.

Rev. Maryellen Young’s talk on this Sunday is entitled “The Week That Changed the World.” Continuing the celebration on Thursday, April 9, which is Maunday Thursday, at 7 p.m., Holy Communion will be offered at a sacred service to be held in the Genoa Town Hall. This service is filled with silence, prayer, music and the sharing of communion. This is an adult service, but older children are welcome if they can participate without interrupting others.

On Good Friday, April 10 from noon to 3 p.m., on-going meditation will be offered at the Genoa Community Church. Guided meditations will take place every half hour, and anyone may come for part or all of this time of meditation and prayer.

Easter Sunday, April 12, wraps up the week with a service at 10:30 a.m in the Genoa Town Hall. Special music will be performed, and Rev. Maryellen Young’s message is entitled “Living Easter Everyday.” Everyone is cordially invited to attend any of the above services.

Following the Palm Sunday service in the Genoa Town Hall, a fellowship time will be held and attendees are invited to take a dessert or snack to share.

Unity Church of Today meets regularly at the Genoa Community Church. Children’s church is held at the nearby Masonic Hall.
