Girl wants to go on trip
Stacy Andelin, an 8th grade honor student at Pau-Wa-Lu Middle School, recently qualified to participate in the People to People Student Ambassador Program, which offers a 23-day educational trip, departing in June, to the Mediterranean, specifically Spain, France and Italy.
The program was started by President Dwight D. Eisenhower in 1963 to promote peace and understanding between America and other countries. The aim of each Student Ambassador delegation is to provide, wherever possible, a balanced exposure to a variety of nations in a specific region through such activities as briefing by hosting government officials, meeting at international organizations, attendance at cultural performances and home stays with selected host families.
The program enables Student Ambassadors to express their viewpoints, develop new friendships and increase their understanding of the differences and similarities among all people.
Stacy must raise funds for this opportunity. The cost of the trip is $4,390, plus personal expenses and round trip airfare from Reno to the departure city, probably Newark, N.J.
Bank of America at Raley’s in Gardnerville at 1363 Highway 395 has set up The Stacy Andelin People to People Fund, Account #0049 6011 7929 to accept donations.
A rummage sale is planned for mid-April and donations of items to be rummaged are gladly accepted. Call Debbie Andelin at 265-5679 or Gordon Andelin at 781-1989 to arrange for pickup.
