Through the efforts of Rev Van Deventer, it is possible that an academy will be built in Genoa similar to the one in Bishop, Cal. M. Cohn offered to donate forty acres of land close to town for that purpose.

Jae Ann (Duelser) Everett was born July 30, 1849 in Penn Yan, Yates county, Potter Township, New York, and died at Minden, Douglas Co., Nev. March 7, aged 77 years 7 months and 7 days.She came of pioneer stock and was the daughter of George and Ellen (Schenck) Duesler.

The number of local people who have already handed in their signatures as members gives assurance that the Douglas County Library Association will be started with strong support.

March 14, 1963

Nine students at Douglas High School received perfect 4.00 averages during the fourth six-weeks period, it was announced this week by Principal Jerome Etchegoyhen. Twenty students made the fourth six-weeks honor roll, with 19 more receiving honorable mention. Two seniors and three freshman are on the honor roll. Three seniors received honorable mention and four freshman.

Parental rights vs. the state’s authority to step in when excessive force is used on a child are being put to the test this week in Douglas County. On trial is Brant R. Honkanen, accused of willfull child abuse and the use of a martial arts tool on his 14-year-old son.

A local business man is hitting the media circuit to bring the name of Gardnerville to the masses. Dennis Hope is the owner of the Lunar Embassy, a Carson Valley business that sells, among other things, property on the Moon, Mars, Venus, and Io.
