Genoa VFD sets benefit dinner, golf tourney

Staff reports

The 20th annual Genoa Volunteer Fire Department’s Fireman’s Benefit and the fifth annual Fireman’s Team Challenge Golf Tournament at Genoa Lakes will be held May 16.

The dinner will be held at the new Genoa Volunteer Firehouse following an afternoon of golf. Open to all golfers, this tournament offers a chance to play at a great price ($75) for a good cause (the purchase of fire-fighting equipment).

There is a revolving trophy for the first-place team comprised of fire personnel. The Carson City Fire Department wrested the trophy from the home team last year, but must fight to retain it this year, says GVFD spokesperson Roger Falcke.

The Genoa volunteers moved equipment into their new firehouse in January after a long wait – it took almost a decade from the time volunteers began acquiring property until the completion of the new station.

Golf begins at 1:30 p.m. in a shotgun start, four-man scramble format. Players are asked to arrive early, as they must change their spikes (Genoa Lakes has gone spikeless). The $75 cost includes dinner and trophies for first, second and third places and lots of other prizes.

A raffle and auction will be held at the dinner as well, which begins with a happy hour at 6 p.m. and dinner at 7 p.m. Dinner tickets sell separately for $12.50.
