Genoa Renaissance Faire coming July 29-30

Staff reports

L and M Promotions will hold the Genoa Renaissance Faire July 29 and 30 in historic Genoa.

Costumed performers and artisans await visitors, who will stroll the streets of “The Village of Genovese,” a re-created European village, and see knights on horseback do battle on the tournament field of Genovese and cheer and revel as the Renaissance is brought to life. Each day, visitors will enjoy staged presentations, “fyne ale” and succulent food.

In addition to staged shows and improvisation, the faire holds treasure in the form of rare and unique items sold by costumed merchants at a craft fair.

For all children who love to color, the Genoa Renaissance Faire is hosting a coloring contest made possible by The Record-Courier, Nevada Appeal and L and M Promotions. A $50 Savings Bond, donated by the Bank of America, Minden branch, and L and M Promotions, will be awarded the winner from each age group, 5-8 and 9-12.

Entry forms will appear in The Record-Courier and Nevada Appeal and are also available at several merchants in Carson Valley, Carson City and Lake Tahoe.

This year’s faire will also feature two theater groups. A Reno group will perform classic Shakespeare.

A comic version of “Romeo and Juliet” for the younger audience will be performed by a local theater group. Anyone interested in participating in this play and other upcoming local theater presentations may contact Shannon Hickey at 782-2893.

The faire on Saturday, July 29, will run from 10 a.m .to 8 p.m., and on Sunday, July 30, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Admission is $5; children under 12, $2.50.
