Genoa house and garden tour coming up

Staff reports

Plans are under way for L & M Promotion’s sixth annual Genoa Area House and Garden Tour to be held on Sunday, June 4, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Tickets are $10 and limited in number. They are on sale soon at several locations in Carson Valley, Carson City, Reno, Lake Tahoe and Yerington.

Ticket holds will have the opportunity to tour historic Carson Valley ranch houses, homes, gardens and other historic buildings and museums, plus a brand new, “contemporary” home.

This year, because of the millennium and Mormon Station’s and Genoa’s 150th anniversary, we wanted to feature some of Carson Valley’s historic and prestigious ranches because ranching played such an important and vital role in the early history of Nevada and especially Carson Valley.

“These lovely old ranch houses represent the families who struggled and turned the sagebrush covered land into this beautiful green valley for all of us to enjoy,” organizer Laurie Hickey said.

Funds from this year’s tour will benefit the Carson Advocates for Cancer Victims in Carson, Douglas, Lyon and Storey counties and the Genoa Renaissance Faire to be held in Genoa on July 29 and 30.

“The Carson Advocates for Cancer Victims provide volunteers, but we never seem to have enough. So anyone interested in helping for a few hours on the day of the tour, please call 782-2893 to volunteer,” Hickey said.

For more information or tickets, call Hickey at 782-2893 or Martha Williams at 782-4951 or send a check or money order to 1456 Foothill Road, Gardnerville 89410, with a self-addressed, stamped envelope.
