Genoa committee to hold fund-raising pops concert

Staff reports

The Genoa Sesquicentennial Committee will hold its second annual spring concert featuring the Carson Valley Pops Orchestra March 25.

Funds from the concert will be used to help the orchestra and the 150th anniversary celebration of the establishment of Mormon Station, which led to the settlement of Genoa, in 1851.

Admission is $5 per person and $10 per family. The concert will be held in the newly redecorated CVIC Hall in Minden at 4 p.m.

Working together on the 150th anniversary events are Genoa area residents, the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and the Nevada State Parks system. Plans are under way for a celebration June 1-3, centered in Mormon Station State Park.

Featured will be numerous historic characterizations and demonstrations, pageant, music, dancing, costume ball, art and photo exhibit, picnic and Carson Valley Pops Orchestra concert.

Revenues from the celebration will be donated to the orchestra, Boy Scouts and a fund to acquire additional parking and expansion of Mormon Station.
