Gardner earns Eagle rank

Staff reports

Kevin Gardner, a member of Explorer Post 240, received the Eagle Award, Scouting’s highest rank advancement, on Saturday, Oct. 10, at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Minden.

George Keele, president of the Carson City Stake of the LDS Church, presented the award as 90 of Kevin’s friends and family attended the event.

Kevin is the son of Robert and Sandra Gardner of Minden and is a junior at Douglas High School. He is active in his church and sports, and is a member of the Douglas High varsity soccer team.

In addition to earning 27 merit badges, attending the Scout National Jamboree in Virginia last summer and participating in many hikes, campouts and community service projects, Kevin planned and carried out his Eagle service project last year. His service project included clean-up and restoration of the historic Genoa cemetery. A group of 40 community members and scouts helped Kevin with this project.
