Christmas will be here before we know it. In preparation for the holiday season, the Carson Valley Historical Society will hold its fourth annual “Gallery of Trees Festival” Nov. 29-Dec. 28 at the Carson Valley Museum and Cultural Center, 1477 Highway 395, Gardnerville.

Application are now available at the museum gift shop or by calling Marlena Hellwinkel at 782-2010 or Diane Callahan at 782-3045, co-chairs for the holiday event.

The deadline to sign up is Nov. 15.

“The historical society has taken part in Carson Valley’s holiday weekend for the last four years by offering an open house for the community at the museum and cultural center the first Sunday in December in conjunction with the lighting of the Minden Gazebo and other activities,” said Hellwinkel, president of the Carson Valley Historical Society.

A service club, individual, organization, school or business may enter a decorated tree at no charge that will be on display within the museum. Applicants are to furnish their own artificial tree, mini-lights and decorations. Theme trees are encouraged. The first 20 applications will be accepted.

“During the holidays, many visitors stop by the museum with visiting family and friends to see the trees. It looks so festive,” said Callahan.

Visitors to the museum are invited to vote for their favorite tree Nov. 30-Dec. 3.

“This is a great way to advertise your business, school or club and show your support for the historical society and our community as a whole,” said Hellwinkel.

On Sunday, Dec. 3, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., the historical society will hold an open house with homemade holiday cakes, cookies, refreshments and holiday music provided by the Trinity Lutheran Church choir. At 3 p.m., the most popular tree will be announced.
