Friends of Library to honor life members
Four new life members of the Douglas County Friends of the Library will be honored at the group’s annual membership reception Feb. 20.
Knox and Elizabeth Johnson and an anonymous life member, and Suzanne Stockdale, representing the Smallwood Foundation, will be recognized for their contributions to the library.
Elizabeth Johnson was instrumental in bringing a public library to Douglas County in the 1950s and ’60s. The Smallwood Foundation has donated funds to various library programs, and Stockdale is on its board of trustees.
The event will be held from 2 to 4 p.m. in the meeting room at the library, located on Library Lane off County Road in Minden.
The reception also honors all those members who have provided support to the Friends of the Library, and there will be displays showing past activities of the Friends, plus door prizes, free book coupons and refreshments, said Friends of the Library President Linda Class.
“We would also like to dispel the misconception that membership means large blocks of time,” Class said. “The membership fee itself allows our group to provided for many library needs. We meet once a month, and members may participate in as many or as few activities as they wish.”
Membership fees are individual $15, family $20, sponsor or business $50, students or seniors 60 and over $5, life member $250; but any amount is always welcome.
