Friends of library plan high tea

by Ted Conover

When the Friends of the Douglas County Library meets for the 2001 kickoff tea, the association’s directors are urging members to attend and bring friends who might be interested. The invitation also is extended to anyone who would like to learn about the Friends and the library.

The event will last about an hour beginning at 11 a.m. on Saturday, Jan. 20, at the library, 1625 Library Lane, Minden.

Those attending will have an opportunity to see all the improvements made at the library during the past year or so. The improvements, in addition to the enlargement of the building, include some valuable new equipment that enhances the library’s service.

A brief business session will be followed by a light-hearted time of conversation and planning. Members and friends will be encouraged to ask questions and make suggestions concerning ways to make the Friends a better organization.

Refreshments will be served and door prizes awarded.

During the past year, the Friends worked on a number of projects and special events. The group supported videotaping library programs for cable access, the teen reading program, summer reading program prizes and materials, Young Chautauquans program, children’s poetry contest, letters to Santa and pictures with Santa, winter reading program prizes and materials. All together in 2000, the Friends aided and helped finance some 16 activities at the library.

In addition, the Friends support and work with the Douglas County Public Library Foundation.
