Food closet welcomes gardeners’ extras

by Rosemarie Middendorf

Is your backyard garden flourishing? Wonder what to do with all those lovely vegetables? Just box or bag them and take them on down to the Carson Valley Community Food Closet in the Hussman Building, 1255 Waterloo Lane (across from Lampe Park), Gardnerville.

Onions, potatoes, squash, cucumbers, carrots, radishes, lettuce, tomatoes, green beans, corn, apples, grapes, whatever you have, we can help you share. If your chickens have been busy lately, we can share fresh eggs, also.

Volunteers at the food closet will be delighted to share your fresh vegetables with those in need.

Founded in 1988, Carson Valley Community Food Closet, a non-profit organization operated solely by volunteers, provides emergency food supplies year-round to families who qualify through the Douglas County Social Services.

The food closet is open Monday, Wednesday and Friday from 1 to 4 p.m. For information, call Diane Malone, director, at 782-3711.
