Food Closet seeks extra garden produce

by Rosemarie Middendorf

Are you getting tired of eating zucchini or cabbage? Perhaps you’re having tomatoes for breakfast just to keep from disposing of them.

We have a suggestion for you and others in your position. Please donate your excess garden produce to the Carson Valley Community Food Closet. We will be more than happy to accept your extra foods, whether it be potatoes, garlic, corn on the cob, radishes, spinach or lettuce. We accept all fresh vegetables. We also take fresh fruit and eggs.

Not only will you be relieved of the abundance of the item, but you can assist by sharing your garden with others who will deeply appreciate the opportunity to have fresh food items for their table.

The Food Closet, a non-profit organization manned solely by volunteers, provides food year-round to families who qualify. Take your donation to the Carson Valley Community Food Closet, located in the Hussman Building at 1255 Waterloo Lane (near Lampe Park) in Gardnerville.

Office hours are Monday, Wednesday and Friday from 1 to 4 p.m.
