Flycasters to hear talk

Staff Reports

The High Sierra Fly Casters monthly meeting will be held Wednesday, June 18 at 7 p.m. at Minden Elementary School on Buckeye Road in Minden.

After the business meeting, Peter Jon Bauer, past president of the High Sierra Fly Casters, will present a program on fishing the High Sierra for golden trout.

Bauer points out that, though he has lived in the area for only nine years after retiring from the Navy, he has fished the Sierra extensively for almost 20 years.

The program will include a comprehensive list of places to go and what to use once you get there. Many of the prime areas for goldens are two or more days hiking or riding from the nearest trailhead. There are, however, some places that can be fished on a day hike for those people with less time to pursue these fish.

Bauer is currently the owner of the Angler’s Edge Fly Shop at 1420-A Highway 395 in Gardnerville, where he maintains a good supply of information on this and other fishing related matters.

The High Sierra Fly Casters, a non-profit organization, is a family oriented club and encourages the membership of all, including women and children. For information regarding membership, call Jack Kowalski, 782-6576.
