FISH seeks good, used coats for fall
Friends in Service Helping (FISH) needs coats now.
FISH will distribute without charge about 450 coats to children, senior citizens and other needy persons during the next five months.
The largest need will be during the first six weeks of school and the first cold months of winter. The time to donate a coat is during the hot summer months, thereby making it possible for FISH and Mercury Cleaners to have a large inventory in stock ready for distribution.
For the past 11 years, FISH has mailed coupons for free coats to each school counselor, all ministers and other sister agencies in this area. Any one of these community leaders and agencies is trained to respond to any person they see who seems to need a coat by simply handing them one of the coupons. Staff members in the FISH thrift stores in Carson City and Gardnerville will provide a coat for each person, no questions asked, on the spot.
FISH has enjoyed a special relationship with Mercury Cleaners for more than 10 years. Mercury cleans and repairs all donated coats free. This warm weather is the time to utilize Mercury Cleaner’s generosity and build up an inventory for the cold winter months ahead. Coats may be left at the Carson City thrift store at Carson and Long streets or the Gardnerville store at 811 Short Court.
