Fish Hatchery sets open house

The Lahontan Fish Hatchery south of Gardnerville will hold its annual open house Saturday, April 12, 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. with Boy Scouts of America helping with tours and activities.

For kids looking forward to the 8th annual Kids’ Fishing Derby May 31 and June 1 at Lampe Park, this is the first opportunity to sign up to fish.

The fish hatchery is a member of the non-profit organization Kids Fishing Derby Inc. which organizes the derby. Others are the Douglas County Parks and Recreation Department and Nevada Division of Wildlife.

The Kids Fishing Derby is free to all kids aged 2-12. Fishing hooks and bait are provided free of charge to all participants as well as fishing rods for those who need them. A special time slot is provided for disabled individuals.
