Fiona’s Winemaker Series continues
Fiona’s popular Meet the Winemaker dinner series continues on Monday night, Aug. 4, with a gourmet evening featuring the wines of Lava Cap Vineyards. This festive evening of wine, food and fellowship is part of an ongoing monthly program sponsored by the Carson Valley Inn.
The inn’s Executive Chef, Marc Rickey, will present a five-course gourmet dinner paired with some of Lava Cap Vineyard’s best wines: Fume Blanc, 1995; Reserve Chardonnay, 1995; Muscat Canelli, 1995; Reserve Zinfandel, 1995; and Granite Hill Petite Sirah, 1994.
Located high in the Sierra Foothills in the heart of the beautiful Apple Hill region, Lava Cap Winery is a small family-owned and operated winery dedicated to the production of premium estate-bottled wines. The quality of the Lava Cap Vineyard grape comes from the high altitude of the vineyard as well as the volcanic soil.
The evening’s menu starts with a cold appetizer of prosciutto-wrapped papaya with goat cheese and pumpernickel slice. The hot appetizer is apricot-glazed chicken with grilled leeks. Salad will be spicy prawns with black beans over Thai noodles. Following a fruited ice intermezzo, Chef Mark’s entree is tenderloin of beef, sauteed with sundried tomatoes and pink peppercorns, served over mixed grains with fried garlic. Dessert will be lemon butter shortcake and summer berries with creme fraiche.
Fiona’s monthly Meet the Winemaker dinners are an opportunity to learn more about wine in a relaxed atmosphere. These dinners are for all levels of wine enthusiasts – from the neophyte taster to the veteran wine connoisseur. The price for the evening is $32.95 per person plus tax and gratuity for a total of $40.
