by Tyrel Dressler

The Carson Valley FFA Chapter had some great news to announce at the group’s Jan. 10 meeting. FFA Advisor Krissy Moore became engaged to Peter Knight over the Christmas holiday. They are planning a summer wedding. The members are very happy for them.

Plans and preparations were discussed regarding each team that will compete at the state convention in March. The parliamentary procedures team has been busy meeting two days a week and will now go to three days a week. They will be attending competitions at the colleges of Chico State University Feb. 2 and University of California at Davis March 2.

Applications for state officer and state degrees are due Feb. 15. If any member would like to run for a state office or apply for a state degree, he or she should contact Moore at the high school.

The chapter will be selling Hersey Kiss Roses for Valentine’s Day. The orders must be placed no later than Feb. 8 with the Tiger Lilys. They will also be available at the student store in the high school.

The FFA chapters of Smith Valley and Mason Valley will be hosting a Western Area Zone practice. The Western Area Zone comprises chapters from Lovelock, Fallon, Reno, Gardnerville-Minden, Smith Valley and Yerington. The actual zone contest will be held March 5 in Lovelock. Teams that compete at the zone level go on to compete at the state level.

Eighth and ninth grade members will recite the creed at the Feb. 14 meeting. The member who does the best job will be chosen to compete at the zone level. There, that member will compete with other members from the Western Zone Area. The one chosen at zone will represent the Western Zone Area at the state level. At the state level, the member will be competing against the winner of the Northern Zone and the winner of the Southern Zone.

The FFA chapter is challenging the FBLA (Future Business Leaders of America) to a volleyball match Jan. 24 at 4 p.m at the high school.
