Father-son team show mountain men regalia

Staff reports

Conor Witt, a student at Pinon Hills Elementary School, and his father Craig shared their knowledge and artifacts of mountain men life recently at school.

The father-son team demonstrated their knowledge to Janet McDowell’s 3rd-4th multi-age group class as part of the class’s study of mountain men.

According to the teacher, the students began their study with Lewis and Clark and continued with mountain men who explored Nevada.

The Witts participate in mountain men rendezvous in the area, where the men and women spend time living as mountain men did and trading goods.

In class, the Witts showed their clothing and equipment and a videotape taken at the last rendezvous they attended.

The presentation created a better understanding of mountain men such as Kit Carson, John C. Fremont and Joseph R. Walker, McDonnell said.
