Farmer’s markets set for county parks
Wednesday mornings, starting June 2, Lampe Park in Gardnerville is the host site for a community market open every week from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. until Oct. 15. On Friday mornings, opening June 4, Kahle Community Park in Stateline will have its own market.
Both markets feature a variety of stands set up outdoors. Flowers, berries, tone fruits, lettuces and tomatoes are only a few of the items ripe and ready. Picked at the farms and brought to the markets within 24 hours from leaving the garden, the flavors are intense, said Sharon Rusk, market manager.
“Douglas County Parks and Recreation has put together some great markets to kick of the season, and is looking forward to sharing them with the local communities. Offering more than just fruits and vegetables, the markets will be filled with flowers, homemade soaps, plants, birdhouses, even compost to spread in your yard,” she said.
For anyone who grows or makes any garden-related items and would like to participate in the farmer’s markets, there is always a market manager at each market who can provide information on how to get involved.
