Family Support Council offers classes
The Family Support Council Parents and Children Together program is offering two classes to help parents. The classes are Parenting Young Children (parents of children age 0-5) and Effective Parenting (parents of children 6-12).
“We believe that being an effective parent is one of the most rewarding tasks in life – and it’s also one of the most challenging. Part of the challenge involves sorting out all of the conflicting theories of child training one finds in books, newspapers, and on television,” Tammy Rames, assistant PACT coordinator. “It’s so easy to become confused.”
To clarify this barrage of often confusing information, the Family Support Council is offering STEP, Systematic Training for parents, a practical alternative to meet the challenges of raising children today, she said.
The parenting classes schedule is Parenting Young Children, April 16-May 28 and Effective Parenting, April 15-May 27. both of the classes will be held in the evening from 6:30-8:30 p.m. at the Family Support Council at 1255 Waterloo Lane, Gardnerville. Free child care is available on site.
The “Parents Handbook” a permanent reference guide is available for $13. Contact the Family Support Council, 782-8692 to pre-register.
The program is sponsored by the Nevada Children’s Trust, Title XX and Smallwood Foundation.
