Elks sponsor Christmas decorating contest
The Minden-Douglas Elks Lodge #2670 is sponsoring its second Christmas decorating contest for homes and businesses.
The original contest was held in 1990 but dropped in 1994. Last year, with the help of the Carson Valley Chamber of Commerce and selected businesses, the lodge will hold it again.
Prizes will be awarded for residential, outdoor; residential, window(s) only; business, outdoor; and business window(s) only.
The outdoor category refers to decorations to the outside area of a house or business building, and may include the roof, building or grounds.
First prize in each category will be $75, second place, $50, and third place, $25.
A panel of judges will be comprised of a representative of each of the sponsors.
Anyone can enter for a $5 entry fee. Proceeds will go to the Elks to help fund the group’s many community charities and activities.
Entry forms must be postmarked no later than Dec. 5, and judging will be held Dec. 11 and 12.
Winners will be announced in The Record-Courier. All businesses and residences located in the Valley portion of Douglas County (including Topaz) are eligible.
The Elks also sponsor the Christmas train display at the home of member Chuck Harris, 1279 Bodie Court in the Ranchos. Kids and adults are welcome 6-8:30 p.m. to view the huge train set-up from Dec. 7-25. Elks will sell hot chocolate and coffee.
Russ Wailes in is charge of all Elks’ Christmas projects and Jim Schramm is in charge of the train program.
