Eight make final cut for Genoa Town Manager

Of eight finalists for the position of Genoa Town Manager, one actually lives near the town, and another is a Gardnerville resident.

Two dozen people applied for the job, and eight survived the first cut to be considered by the town board.

Interviews with those eight candidates are expected to take place this week in an effort to cut the number of finalists down for the public interviews before the Genoa Town Board.

Only half of the finalists are Nevadans, with three Californians and a Utah resident also among the finalists.

County Manager Steve Mokrohisky said his office is working with the District Attorney’s Office and Human Resources to keep the process open.

“We are planning panel interviews next week with approximately eight candidates,” he said in an email to The Record-Courier. “The panel will have one Town Board member on it. The final candidates will be recommended to the Town Board for final interviews in public at a special meeting on Sept. 25.”

Town Manager Sheryl Gonzales gave her notice to the town board last month after five years. Gonzales is working with the county to manage Candy Dance Sept. 28-29, the town’s annual fundraiser. Economic Development Manager Lisa Granahan, who is providing managerial services to the town in addition to her county duties, said she hoped to have a town manager in place by mid-October.
