Douglas Pop Warner teams set for Snow Bowl
Three Douglas Pop Warner teams will play Saturday in the Snow Bowl Games at Bishop Manogue High School in Reno.
The Douglas Unlimited team plays at 8 a.m. against the Sparks Wolf Pack, the Junior Pee Wee Tigers play at 2 p.m. against the Reno Miners, and the Pee Wee Tigers play at 4 p.m. against the Sparks Wolf Pack.
Last Friday, the Pee Wees won 28-0 at Stodick Park over the Sparks Ducks. Coach Darren Daniels said: “The Pee Wee Tigers showed their true sportsmanship. Even when things got tough the team came together and played hard.”
The Junior Pee Wees won 27-7 at home against the Galena Grizzlies. Coach Shane Thomas said: “The Jr. Pee Wee Tigers secured a hard fought victory over a well coached Galena Grizzlies opponent. Come cheer on and support your undefeated Junior Pee Wee Douglas Tigers team who will be playing for the Northern Nevada Division 2 Snow Bowl championship against the Miners.”
The Unlimited team returned home to play against the Carson Senators with a 28-0 victory. Coach Mike Dillon said: “The kids battled the elements and beat their rival in a hard fought game.”
The Mitey Mites absorbed a 25-12 loss to the Reno Panthers in Carson City. Coach Allen Peake said: “The kids played with heart and as a team.”
The Tiny Mites ended their season at home against Fernley. Both teams met for pizza afterward and enjoyed the opportunity to make new friends. Coach Jake Fair said: “A good time was had by all in a fun and exciting final game. Players got to shake things up a bit and try different positions on both the offensive and defensive side of the ball.”
