Douglas Pop Warner starts in playoffs
Douglas Pop Warner football launched into the playoff Sagebrush Empire playoff season on Oct. 21.
The games last week had most of the teams playing at home in Stodick Park while the Unlimited Team had to travel to Sparks.
On Friday night, Oct. 21, the Mitey Mites played a tough game at home, only to see their rival Carson Senators win, 27-18.
The Junior Pee Wee team hosted the Sparks Ducks and took a 33-0 victory. Coach Shane Thomas said: “Finally, a 100 percent healthy Douglas Tiger Junior Peewee TEAM wins over a quality Sparks Ducks opponent.”
The Unlimited team absorbed its first loss of the season, 32-14, against the Sparks Ducks at Golden Eagle Regional Park.
The Pee Wee division squad had the week off as their planned game was cancelled due to a forfeit by the other team earlier in the week due to illnesses and injuries.
The Tiny Mites hosted the Fallon Greenwave at Stodick Park. It was a memorable game for many reasons. Tears and Cheers were had on both sides for all the players. In a game where pure sportsmanship reigned. Coach Jake Fair said: “This is the reason why we are here. We don’t know who these kids will grow up to be, but we want them to be able to look back with a smile when they think of their Pop Warner days. Doing the right thing for others is a Douglas Pop Warner tradition that will be carried on with this team.”
