Staff Reports

No doubt, the Douglas High boys basketball team followed a formidable path into the 13th annual Wild West Shootout in Reno.

The Tigers opened on Thursday with a 72-40 loss against a Jesuit team that traditionally ranks as one of Sacramento’s top programs and then came back with a 62-20 loss Friday afternoon at the hands of St. Mary’s, one of the top programs in the Stockton area.

The Wild West Shootout is hosted by Bishop Manogue High.

Douglas faced Lowry on Saturday morning in the tournament’s seventh-place game. Folsom played Manogue for the championship later in the day.

Both the Douglas girls and boys teams play at home Tuesday night when they to Northern 4A cross-over play against North Valleys. The girls game starts at 5:15 p.m., followed by the boys game at 7.

The Douglas girls picked up their first win Friday, 42-26, over Lassen (Susanville, Calif.) at the Sierra Nevada Winter Classic in Sparks. The Tigers lost 62-20 to St. Ignatius (San Francisco) on Thursday.
