DHS drama coach in show with Lacy J. Dalton

Staff reports

Douglas County actor Rod Hearn has accepted the male lead opposite Country Western vocalist Lacy J. Dalton in the Nevada Shakespeare Festival’s production of Irving Berlin’s popular musical, “Annie Get Your Gun,” to be held at Piper’s Opera House in Virginia City on April 7, 8, 14 and 15.

Curtain time for all four performances is 7 p.m., with open seating beginning at 6 p.m. each night.

This will mark the second time that Hearn has played Frank Butler in this timeless musical dramatizing the love story of Annie Oakley and the handsome sharpshooter who won her heart while they toured with the Buffalo Bill Wild West Show. His performance at the Western Nevada Community College (WNTC) production in 1999 earned him rave reviews.

Hearn’s resume contains a rich array of additional acting and musical experiences, including the role of Captain Hook in “Peter Pan” and other notable accomplishments in such productions as “Assassins,” “Brigadoon,” “Man of La Mancha” and “South Pacific.” When he’s not appearing on stage, Hearn, who holds a bachelor’s degree in English and drama education and a master’s in education degree, is a popular drama instructor at Douglas High School

“It’s a pleasure working with such professionals as Rod Hearn and Lacy J. Dalton,” said NSF Artistic Director Jeanmarie Simpson. “The first time they sang the duet, ‘Falling in Love Is Wonderful,’ the cast went wild. Rod’s 6-foot, 1-inch leading man good looks and his lyric baritone perfectly complement Lacy J. Dalton’s beauty and talents. Their chemistry is wonderful.”

Tickets may still be purchased for “Annie Get Your Gun.” Admission for this benefit performance for the NSF and the “Let ‘Em Run Foundation” is $20 for adults and $15 for students and seniors.

Major credit card holders may purchase tickets by telephone at (775) 847-0600. Mail orders may be sent to the Nevada Shakespeare Festival, P.O. Box 871, Virginia City 89440.
