DHS barbershop quartet competes in contest

The Real Singers, a barbershop quartet from Douglas High School, tied for 13th out of 22 competitors at the annual Spring Convention and Contest for the Far Western District of SPEBSQSA, the nationwide barbershop singing society, in Fresno, Calif., over the weekend.

According to Pete Marshall of the Chorus of the Comstock, the Carson City chapter of SPEBSQSA, the youths did very well, considering it was their first contest and they have only been singing together since January.

Many of the teams they competed against have been singing together since last summer, he said.

The contest including high school quartets from Arizona, California and Nevada. Members of the Real Singers are Randy Cox, bass, Justin McClelland, baritone, Rich Ridley, tenor, and Jason Smith, lead.
