Derobertis takes top fair awards
Andrea Derobertis, a 17-year-old junior at Douglas High School swept the livestock awards at the 1998 Nevada State Fair in Reno. Andrea, who took a steer for show and sale, as well as one of her registered Black Angus heifers, won several awards with both.
In the youth show, Andrea won first in her division with her steer “Elmer” and finished third overall in her division.
At the open show, Andrea showed her Black Angus heifer in five different classes and finished first in all five. When all first place cattle were brought together for the grand champion titles, Andrea captured them all. She received grand champion awards for the champion female at the show, receiving an embroidered director’s chair, and the champion division title, for which she also received an embroidered director’s chair. For Andrea’s efforts in showing her cattle in the open division, she won the coveted 1998 Nevada State Fair Champion Showman title, receiving an embroidered travel bag. Andrea also received halters, gift certificates and cash awards for her efforts.
“I love showing cattle, and the Nevada State Fair is one of my favorite shows,” she said. “There is always a lot of good, tough competition there, and to win there is always a boost because of the competition. I would like to thank the Nevada State Fair Board for the outstanding livestock show and fair they always have.
“I would also like to thank Loren Mrnak and Settelmeyer Ranches for their continued support of me, as well as my beef buyers, Cliff and Cheryl Bricker, R & T Cleaners, A & A Construction and Flying N Ranch. Without these people, it would be difficult for the youth of this Valley to be able to compete at these shows. This is such a great experience, I wish more people had the opportunity to show cattle and participate in shows of this caliber.”
