Davenport gets MBA at Chicago

Staff Reports

Larry Mitchell Davenport, son of Larry and Gail Davenport of Gardnerville and grandson of Larry C. Davenport of Lake Tahoe and William and Esther Kramer, also of Gardnerville, recently completed his course of study and received his master’s in business administration from the University of Chicago, one of the top 10 MBA programs in the country.

The program Davenport attended was the International Business Executive MBA program in Barcelona, Spain.

Davenport began his higher education at Lake Tahoe Community College in South Lake Tahoe, while he worked for his family at Davenport Distributing Company at South Lake Tahoe, a beverage wholesaler of major national brands. At the same time he was enlisted with the United States Marine Corps 4th Force Reconnaissance Company, stationed at Stead in Reno.

As a Marine he received his gold wings and scuba bubble and also completed Navy Seal School training. He was trained to go behind enemy lines to gather reconnaissance information and ultimately was called to duty in that capacity during the Gulf War, where he served in 1990-1991, when he received a field promotion to Sergeant.

Upon returning from the war, he transferred to Saint Mary’s College in Moraga, Calif., while he worked full time for Showerman’s Distributing Company in San Jose, working his way up from a night warehouse position to sales manager in charge of over 50 employees. He received his bachelor’s degree in business administration from St. Mary’s College in February of 1994.

In August of 1996, Davenport married his long-time sweetheart, Erin Silva, at St. Theresa’s Catholic Church at South Lake Tahoe, Calif. They met in 1988 when he was coaching his younger sister’s Bobby Sox softball team in South Lake Tahoe, and Erin Silva was umpire when they went “nose-to-nose” after she called one of his players “out” at first base.

The former Miss Silva graduated from South Lake Tahoe High School in 1988 and went on to play basketball and volleyball while attending Santa Rosa Junior College. There she received her associate degree and a scholarship for basketball at Saint Mary’s College, where she earned a bachelor’s degree in psychology and a master’s in education. She is employed as a psychological counselor with the Hayward, Calif., School District and is also the head girls’ varsity high school basketball coach.

Mrs. Davenport is the daughter of Christine Silva of Gardnerville and Bob Silva, formerly of South Lake Tahoe.

The Davenports make their home in Dublin, Calif.
