Dance workshop earns awards, plans recital
The Dance Company from the Dance Workshop in Gardnerville took top honors at the Headliners National Dance Competition in Hayward, Calif., last weekend.
Fifty-three dancers from the kids, junior and senior divisions of the company performed 15 dance routines in various dance styles, including tap, jazz and lyrical dance. All of the numbers placed in the competition and nine received top honors, getting gold medals, and four received silver.
In addition to the Company, Tiffany Ahrens, Miss Tahoe Douglas and a member of the senior company, also danced two solos to practice for her talent competition in the Miss Nevada Pageant. She also received a gold and a silver medals.
The company puts in many hours of extra rehearsals to perfect techniques, and the practice really paid off, said Ann Peters, director of the Dance Workshop. In addition to all of the first and second place awards, the Dance Workshop received the prestigious judge’s award for the most creative choreography of the three-day competition.
The company will perform most of the winning routines in the annual Dance Workshop Recital, “Leapin’ Lizards” at Caesars Showroom in Lake Tahoe on June 1.
The entire studio will present an amusing adaptation of the musical “Annie.” The performance will be at 6:30 p.m. and benefits the “I Can” program in Douglas County Schools.
“It will be a terrific outing for the family and a fun way to celebrate the end of the school year, besides supporting a great cause,” Peters said. “Don’t miss it and don’t miss the best dancers right here in your home town.”
