CVAA to offer demonstration at meeting

Staff reports

The Carson Valley Art Association will hold its next meeting on Friday, Feb. 25, 1:30 p.m. at the county extension office across the street from Lampe Park on Waterloo Lane in Gardnerville. After a brief business meeting, guest artist Jeff Nicholson will begin his presentation, around 2 p.m.

Nicholson, who is considered by many artists and collectors to be the consummate Nevada realist painter, will discuss how he creates his landscapes, which range vastly in subject matter, but always punctuate the isolation and loneliness of Nevada and the Great Basin. He states that he is “indelibly impressed by the sense of space, endless horizon and brilliant unobstructed light of Nevada.”

Nicholson is known as a significant western painter. His accomplishments, awards and exhibits are too numerous to mention, said Pat Wheeler, CVAA spokesperson.l

“This meeting and demonstration is a must-see for anyone who has an interest in regional painters, whether they are painters themselves or collectors,” she said.

Nicholson is owner of the Great Basin Art Gallery and Frame, 110 S. Curry St., Carson City.

Non-members are always welcome to attend these meetings. There is no admission charge and refreshments will be served. For further information, call 782-3965.
